247Sports recently ranked the top 10 atmospheres in college football this season and I have a feeling that Tennessee Vols fans won't like their rankings.
The national sports media outlet felt like Tennessee's incredible atmosphere for the Alabama game earlier this season was amazing.
But they didn't think it was the best. They just thought it was the second best.
247Sports thought the atmosphere at Sanford Stadium in Athens for Georgia's win over the Vols was the best college football atmosphere of the season.
Given the stakes against top-ranked and unbeaten Tennessee with one of the nation's longest-home winning steaks on the line, Sanford Stadium delivered in early November. Athens was a sight to behold on a wet Saturday between the hedges as the defending national champions shut down the high-powered Tennessee offense and put to bed any questions about this season's best team in the SEC. The Bulldogs kept then-Heisman frontrunner Hendon Hooker without a touchdown pass and the noise level led to countless false starts for the Volunteers, who played behind the sticks and failed to execute throughout.
There's no doubt that the atmosphere at Sanford Stadium for the Tennessee game was great. The crowd was loud enough that it greatly impacted UT's ability to communicate on offense. And it was a big reason why the Vols' offense never found a good rhythm.
But the atmosphere at Neyland for the Alabama game was better — especially when you factor in the post-game celebration.
By the way, two other Tennessee home games should've made their top 10. The atmospheres for the Vols' wins against Florida and Kentucky were also electric and were easily among the best in college football in 2022.
