The Tennessee Vols received a commitment this weekend from 2024 three-star athlete Marucs Goree Jr.

Goree, 6-foot-1/170 lbs from Cleveland, TN, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 9 player in the state of Tennessee.

The Vols now have four players committed to their 2024 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 15 in the nation.

Here's the scouting report on Goree (via 247Sports):

Limited sample size as a pass defender. Flashes some ability to play the deep part of the field but typically is not asked to play man to man as a slot defender. Although evidence is limited, appears to possess the athletic ability to cover possession receivers and tight ends over the slot.

Good athlete that projects as a multi-year starter at a Power Five program at the next level. Sunday ceiling will be dictated by growth potential, versatility in the passing game and speed. Possesses the ability to contribute early on special teams and should ultimately need a year in a strength and conditioning program before seeing considerable snaps on defense.

After committing to Tennessee, Goree spoke to 247Sports about his decision.

And he made it clear that he has one goal at UT.

Win it all.

“You get to be part of the change that’s on the up-come rise and anything they do from here on out is history," said Goree to 247Sports. "We want to win a Natty. To bring a Natty back to the home state would be very special.”

After last year's 11-2 season, expectations have changed at Tennessee. The Vols' goal is no longer to be "relevant", the goal is to win a natty. And Josh Heupel and his staff are recruiting players that share that championship mindset.

Things are changing on Rocky Top. Tennessee has to focus on sustaining its success from the 2022 season while also raising the bar in 2023. It won't be easy, but the Vols showed last season that they belong in the playoff conversation.
