The Tennessee Vols are set to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks under the lights this weekend at Neyland Stadium.
Tennessee is looking to erase the painful memory of last season's 63-38 loss to the Gamecocks while South Carolina will be looking to continue the momentum they've had since beating the Vols last fall.
On Wednesday, 247Sports' Chris Hummer and Brad Crawford each made their predictions for the game.
And they both have Tennessee winning, though only Hummer has the Volunteers covering the -12.5 point spread.
Hummer has the Vols winning 42-28 and Crawford has UT winning 31-24.
From 247Sports: I’d imagine Tennessee will have a little extra motivation in this one after allowing 63 points last year against the Gamecocks. Plus, this is a bad matchup for South Carolina. The Gamecocks are allowing 317 pass yards per game (the most in the SEC) and the Vols have the pass rush (28th in pressure rate) to expose what is a suspect South Carolina o-line. The only thing that holds me back here is the Gamecocks just always seem to find a way to make things interesting under Shane Beamer. They’re 3-0 ATS in their last three road games against AP Top 25 teams, after all. But give me the better team here. That’s Tennessee … Tennessee 42, South Carolina 28.
The 12.5 point spread is a bit of a surprise — especially considering the Gamecocks beat the Vols by 25 points last season.
Also, Tennessee hasn't looked nearly as crisp this season as they did last season. If anything, this feels like a toss-up game — though the Vols do have an advantage since the matchup is in Knoxville.
The team that gets off to the quickest start on Saturday night is likely the team that will win. Both of these teams are hard to stop if their offenses get rolling early.
