Alabama head coach Nick Saban was asked about Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young's injury status on Wednesday during the SEC coaches teleconference.
As expected, Saban didn't give up much information.
Saban told reporters on the call that Young is making progress and has practiced some this week.
No. 3 Alabama is set to take on the No. 6 Tennessee Vols on Saturday in Knoxville.
Young suffered a sprained AC joint on his throwing shoulder in Alabama's win against Arkansas on October 1. He left that game and didn't return. Young was also held out of the Crimson Tide's narrow win over Texas A&M this past Saturday.
Saban said on Wednesday that he didn't think Young could've played against the Aggies and effectively done his job "the way he's capable of doing it".
AC joint injuries typically vary in severity. And we're not sure how severe Young's injury is. That alone makes a prediction for his status against Tennessee nearly impossible.
The Vols would be best served this week to prepare as though Young will play and be 100 percent effective. If he's not, then Jalen Milroe will get the start again for Alabama.
Tennessee's last two games were against mobile quarterbacks (Florida's Anthony Richardson and LSU's Jayden Daniels). Those games should help the Vols be ready for Milroe, who is a more effective runner, in the event that Young doesn't play.
