It appears that Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban was turned down by one of his top offensive coordinator candidates on Tuesday.

Alabama needs a new offensive coordinator after Bill O'Brien left to become the new play-caller for the New England Patriots.

On Monday, it was reported that Saban was interested in hiring Washington offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb.

Grubb, an Iowa native with no prior connection to Saban or Alabama, led the Huskies to the No. 7 scoring offense in the nation this past season (his first season at Washington).

Unfortunately for Saban, Grubb won't be heading to Tuscaloosa.

The Athletic's Matt Fortuna reported on Tuesday morning that Grubb is staying in Washington.

According to The Athletic's Christian Caple, Grubb was offered the job by Alabama. He declined and decided to stay at Washington without receiving a new contract.

It's rare that Saban gets told no, but I think coaches are starting to see that they can advance in their careers without having to spend time at Alabama. Working under Saban can be stressful and less-than-glamorous (just ask Lane Kiffin). It seems that coaches would prefer to take a different coaching path instead of being subjected to Saban's temper tantrums.

I can't say that I blame them.
