Alabama's search for a replacement for Nick Saban didn't last long.
Just two days after Saban's stunning decision to retire, the Crimson Tide hired Kalen DeBoer away from the Washington Huskies to serve as the program's new head coach.
DeBoer is coming off an appearance in the national championship game. The South Dakota native went 25-3 in two seasons at Washington after taking over a program that went 4-8 the year before his arrival.
On Friday, Saban reacted to the news of DeBoer's hire in a statement.
“I want nothing more than to see Alabama football continue to be successful, and Coach DeBoer is an outstanding choice to lead this program,” said Saban. “He has a proven track record of success and is one of the brightest football minds. Coach DeBoer has an excellent understanding of what it takes to be a successful head coach, whether it’s coaching, recruiting, developing players, or building a culture."
“He has done a fantastic job at every stop of his coaching career, and I am excited to see what he will be able to accomplish in Tuscaloosa. Terry and I will be here to support Coach DeBoer and his family with anything they need.”
DeBoer will likely get to know Saban quite well in the coming months. The former Alabama head coach has already made it clear that he plans to maintain a presence in Tuscaloosa.
