Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel dropped a quote on Wednesday during the SEC coaches' teleconference that should get UT fans excited.
One of the concerns after Tennessee's win against Ball State, despite the fact that it was a 49-point victory, was that UT didn't have many big plays.
That was mostly due to the fact that Ball State played extremely soft coverage.
It was also because the Vols didn't put their identity on tape against Ball State.
But that's going to change this weekend against Pittsburgh.
Heupel said during the SEC coaches' teleconference that Tennessee is excited to show who they are this weekend against the Panthers.
"It’s been a good week of practice so far and looking forward to finishing the preparation before we head out to Pittsburgh later this week," said Heupel. "We faced them a year ago and understand who they are and what they’re about, and we’re excited to go show who we are and excited to go play this one.”
This weekend we'll see the real 2022 Vols. We'll see the high-flying offense that takes deep shots down the field — just like last season.
Heupel's quote should ease the concern of any fans that felt like the Vols didn't look as impressive as they expected in week one.
Tennessee kept things vanilla against Ball State for a reason — they didn't want to give Pittsburgh much film to dissect. And yet the Vols still won by 49 points.
That might mean that a sleeping monster is going to await the Panthers in Pittsburgh this weekend.
What a time to be a Vols fan.
