It's tough to judge a hire quickly in the NFL. Usually, time will tell, and it is unsafe to make assumptions early on. For the Tennessee Titans and their fans, their latest front office hire seems to be a home run off the bat.

The Titans hired former San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Ran Carthon as their new general manager.

Carthon couldn't have performed better in his introductory press conference on Friday.

He re-established that he believes in this team and staff. Carthon also says that Mike Vrabel is his top priority, and the relationship with him means a lot to him. He was extremely gracious and thankful for the opportunity.

It's one that he absolutely deserves, too. His work with San Francisco speaks for itself, and he has been around the NFL for nearly two decades. Starting as a pro scout, Carthon has climbed the ladder to get here with the Titans.

During his opening presser, Carthon discussed the running back position and an overall identity on offense.

Additionally, he told an awesome story about the scouting process for 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell.

Titans fans will want to hear it. It comes at the 15:47 mark of the video below.

Carthon explains that he had a discussion with Demitrius Washington, the current Minnesota Vikings VP of football operations, about Mitchell before the draft.

Washington worked with Carthon in San Francisco before going to Minnesota. Carthon details that Washington brought forth a running back prospect (Elijah Mitchell) that analytically profiled as the best outside zone runner in that year's NFL Draft.

He wanted Carthon's opinion on him based on film before making a push for Mitchell with Kyle Shanahan and co. with the 49ers. Carthon confirmed Washington's beliefs on Mitchell's skillset, and that proved to be a great move for the 49ers.

It was one of many examples where analytical scouting has helped the 49ers become the team that they are right now. That's one of the best rosters in the NFL.

Under Carthon, the Titans and their fans hope that they can resemble the type of team-building that is happening in San Francisco. Carthon absolutely sounds like the man for the job so far.
