The Tennessee Titans held an introductory press conference for the team’s new general manager Ran Carthon on Friday.
Carthon, who previously served as the San Francisco 49ers’ director of player personnel, was hired by the Titans on Tuesday. He was greeted with the warmest of welcomes from Titans staffers after news of his hiring broke.
On Friday, Carthon was asked what his first priority as general manager will entail.
“I think Mike Vrabel is the top of my to-do list,” Carthon said. “Us working together and forging a relationship and coming up with a plan on how to build this roster. There are a multitude of things that we need to do, that we need to fix, and make this organization better, but my number one priority is spending more time with Mike Vrabel and learning the systems that are here and in place and how I can help and improve upon them, which will help us build a championship team.”
It’s clear that Carthon is going to lean on Vrabel early in his Titans tenure. In order to return to the contender status, Carthon and Vrabel must work hand in hand to build the Titans back into a perennial AFC power.
Understanding what Vrabel needs in order for the Titans to compete for a Super Bowl is paramount. After all, it was Vrabel who sat in on the meetings with general manager candidates, which suggests he played a role in the team’s decision to hire Carthon.
