Recruiting is starting to pick up in a big way for the Tennessee Vols.

Tennessee still has a lot of work to do on the recruiting trail over the next several months, but the Vols are in the mix for several of the nation's top-rated recruits.

And there's at least one five-star recruitment where Tennessee is considered the "team to beat".

247Sports' Steve Wiltfong said this week on "The College Football Recruiting Show" that he thinks the Vols are the front runners for 2024 five-star defensive lineman Williams Nwaneri.

Wiltfong noted that Nwaneri's coach at Lees Summit North is Jamar Mozee, a former teammate of Vols head coach Josh Heupel at Oklahoma.

"The school that I think is in pole position right now goes against the 247Sports crystal ball, I think the Tennessee Vols are the team to beat right now for Williams Nwaneri as he goes into his next round of visits," said Wiltfong. "He's been to Knoxville twice and told me yesterday 'I feel like when I'm on campus, everything clicks'. He also says he can see himself going there and being really successful. His high school coach played with Josh Heupel at Oklahoma so there's some really good relationships between Tennessee and Lee's Summit North where he plays."

Witlfong pointed out that Oklahoma and Missouri will also be a factor in Nwaneri's recruitment. But for now, it appears to be the Vols in the lead.

Nwaneri, 6-foot-5/250 lbs from Lees Summit, MO, is ranked in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 1 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 4 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.

The talented five-star recruit doesn't have a commitment date in mind. He told On3 earlier this month that he'd like to commit before his senior season, but he's not going to rush it. Nwaneri said he'll play his senior season uncommitted if he hasn't made a decision yet.
