The Nashville Predators are soon going to be without one of their top players for some time.

According to Elliotte Friedman, Ryan Johansen will be having foot surgery for an injury suffered in last night's 5-4 shootout win over the Vancouver Canucks. This news comes the morning after rumors were circulating that his injury could possibly be serious.

The injury occurred sometime in the 2nd period when a skate blade appeared to cut Johansen on his right ankle. Here's a good view of where the injury likely happened:

Ryan Johansen left the game at that point and was seen limping towards the locker room. A few people noticed seeing Johansen on crutches after the game, not putting any weight on that foot.

Obviously, this injury likely decimates what little chance the Nashville Predators had for a playoff run. Johansen has not had a great year, but he's still a top six forward that impacts the game every night. His vision and skill in the offensive end, and on the team's top power play unit, will reduce the Preds chances of scoring goals on a nightly basis, something that was already a major issue.

We should find out exactly how long Ryan Johansen will be out on Thursday morning, but it seems likely to be a season ending injury for him.

Look for the Preds to call up a replacement forward for Johansen, but not necessarily a center. Currently, the Preds have Tommy Novak, Juuso Parssinen, Cody Glass, Colton Sissons, and Mikael Granlund who can play the center position. If they do recall a center, there's a possibility we see the return of Michael McCarron to Nashville, who returned to play in January after his time in the player's assistance program.
