The South Carolina Gamecocks are off to a 1-0 start in 2022 after surviving a scare in week one against Georgia State.

South Carolina was down 14-12 to the Panthers in the third quarter before breaking the game open and winning 35-14.

After the game, Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer threw a little shade at the Tennessee Vols.

Beamer referenced the Vols' loss to Georgia State in 2019 during his post-game interview, saying "we know there's some other SEC teams that have played these guys and aren't having the feeling we have right now".

Beamer might want to be careful. It's not like South Carolina dominated Georgia State.

And by the way, struggling against Georgia State is usually a bad sign. It was a major red flag for Jeremy Pruitt in 2019. And some may feel it was a red flag for Bryan Harsin at Auburn last year (the Tigers beat Georgia State 34-24 early last season).

It could be a red flag for Beamer, too.

That's not why Beamer shouldn't be throwing shade, though.

It's hard to talk trash about a team after losing to that team 45-20 last season. Maybe Beamer should just take the win and focus on making South Carolina better, instead of referencing another team's loss from three years ago.
