On Thursday, ESPN college football reporter Adam Rittenberg picked Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton as his "under the radar" Heisman pick.

Part of the reason why Rittenberg went with Milton, despite his reservations over the last two times that Milton has been a starter (at Michigan and at UT in 2021), is because of what an anonymous SEC defensive coordinator had to say.

According to Rittenberg, the coordinator said that Milton reminds him a lot of former Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker.

The only difference is that the defensive coordinator thinks Milton is more talented.

"He reminds me of Hendon Hooker but more talented," said the SEC defensive coordinator. "Finishing the year off the way he did, I think he's going to have a ton of confidence."

There's no doubt that Milton has a ton of talent. And it's not a stretch to say he's more talented than Hooker, though that doesn't mean that the results will be the same. That part, of course, remains to be seen.

But regardless of what actually happens this fall, it's clear that at least one SEC defensive coordinator has a lot of respect for Milton and what he could possibly accomplish in 2023.
