The storyline for an upcoming Tennessee Vols basketball game got a lot more interesting on Monday morning.

Tennessee is set to take on the Texas Longhorns in Knoxville on January 28.

Texas is coached by former Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard….at least for now.

Beard was reportedly arrested early Monday morning and charged with third-degree felony assault of a family/household member.

From ESPN:

Beard was arrested by police in Austin, Texas, and has been booked on a charge of third-degree assault of a family member "impede breath circulation" or strangulation.

Austin police told ESPN they received a "disturbance hotshot" call, and officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Vista Lane shortly after midnight Monday. The Austin Police Department's website defines a "hotshot" call as "incidents which are in progress are an immediate threat to life and/or public safety. … These calls are dispatched immediately."

Texas released a statement on Monday morning after the news broke.

If the allegations are true, I'm not sure how Beard continues as the head coach at Texas. Unless details emerge that contradicts what's being reported, it's hard to see Beard coaching against Tennessee on January 28.

The Longhorns are currently ranked No. 2 in the AP Top 25 poll, but they'll likely fall a few spots on Monday after losing to Illinois last week.

Tennessee's game against Texas will be tough regardless of who is coaching, but if Beard isn't courtside, it could certainly change the tone of the game.
