Seahawks' 10-year track record: Give Pete Carroll more credit

Sometimes, in the NFL, teams and fanbases take good coaching for granted.

A coach is supposed to be collected, have a game plan, and make sure his team executes it well. When the team is winning, a coach is doing his, her, or their job. When a team is losing, it is all the coach's fault. It is really a zero-sum game, a gladiator's arena. A thankless job. But it is that difficulty of coaches that makes what Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has done in the past decade all the more impressive — he's only had one losing season.

Yes, you read that right.

Carroll, in his tenure as the Seahawks leader, has only struggled through one losing season — 2021 when the Seahawks went 7-10.

Other than that, Carroll has made the playoffs eight times, the Super Bowl twice, and won the whole thing once.

That is an impressive run. And frankly, Carroll deserves his flowers for how he has kept Seattle steady amid controversy and roster overhaul. He has blended the old with the new, bridged eras, and coached every rendition of this team to the best of its abilities. Not many coaches can do that consistently — just see the Cleveland Browns as proof.

The Browns have quite literally had nine losing seasons out of the last 10. Warren Sharp put out a tweet breaking down the tally of wayward losers and high-trodded winners in the NFL.

Here is the full list:

For a specific breakdown of Carroll's last 10 seasons, this is exactly what they look like —

2022: 9-8, lost in the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs.

2021: 7-10, no NFL Playoff appearance.

2020: 12-4, lost in the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs.

2019: 11-5, lost in the Divisional round of the NFL Playoffs.

2018: 10-6, lost in the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs.

2017: 9-7, no NFL Playoff appearance.

2016: 10-5-1, lost in the Divisional round of the NFL Playoff.

2015: 10-6, lost in the Divisional round of the NFL Playoffs.

2014: 12-4, lost in the Super Bowl.

2013: 13-3, won the Super Bowl.

Carroll is special. And it is time that the rest of the NFL world acknowledges that Seattle's dominance was built by him, not anyone else.
