The last couple of weeks have not been kind to Tennessee basketball. The Vols have lost three of their last four games and two of those losses were on brutal buzzer-beater three-point shots.
But despite the painful turn of events, UT remains a betting favorite when it comes to the NCAA Tournament. According to SuperBook Sports, the Big Orange are tied for the fourth-best odds to win the 2023 national championship at +1200. UCLA and Arizona share the same +1200 odds while only Purdue (+1000), Houston (+700), and Tennessee's next opponent, Alabama (+700), have better odds.
Obviously, Vols head coach Rick Barnes has a bit of a controversial reputation when it comes to the NCAA Tournament. Barnes and his team won the SEC Tournament in 2022 but when it comes to the Big Dance, Barnes has never advanced beyond the Sweet 16 with Tennessee.
Barnes reached a Final Four while at Texas in 2003 but has never won a national title. Could this be the year he gets the postseason shortcomings monkey off of his back? Only time will tell. The Vols must first get back to simply winning again after their recent rough patch. And beating No. 1 Alabama on Wednesday night would be the perfect place to start.
