Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel teased a recruiting story on Wednesday night during Vol Calls that he called one of the most "unique experiences" that he's had.

Heupel made his first live appearance of the season on Vol Calls on Wednesday night and he was asked about punter Jackson Ross, a native of Australia who has played very little American football.

"Jackson Ross is a special player," said Heupel. "He’s got some maturity. It’s his first time playing true American football.”

Heupel held back when asked about the backstory of Ross. Instead of diving into the details, he promised to tell the story of Ross' recruitment later this season.

"A guy that grew up playing rugby and Australian Rules Football and punting the ball all over the place," said Heupel. "As the season goes on, I’ll tell his recruiting story at some point. It’s one of the most unique experiences that I’ve had.”

I always love a good recruiting story. But it sounds like Ross' story is anything but typical, which should make for a fun story from Heupel.

By the way, Heupel and Ross have already had a couple of funny moments this month.

Vols outside linebackers coach/special teams coordinator Mike Ekeler told reporters earlier this month that Ross claims to have the third strongest arm on the team (behind quarterbacks Joe Milton and Nico Iamaleava)

Ross met with reporters the same day and confirmed that he does indeed believe he has the third strongest arm on the team.

Heupel hilariously pushed back against Ross' claim by telling reporters "now we know Jackson will lie" before noting that his punter has the fourth strongest arm on the team.

Rocky Top sure does seem like a fun place to be these days.
