The Tennessee Volunteers now know where they'll start from in both major polls, and they're not all that dissimilar.
The Vols checked in at #12 in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll.
Tennessee was one of eight teams from the SEC to make the poll, coming in fifth behind #1 Georgia, #4 Alabama, #5 LSU, and #11 Texas.
Tennessee fared slightly better with the voting coaches than the media, as the Vols started off #10 in the AFCA/USA Today Coaches poll that came out last week.
As such, it seems the Vols – who finished #6 in the final 2022 college football poll – have some work to do to convince the media and the coaches that they are of the same ilk as the 11-2 Orange Bowl champion Volunteer squad from last season.
The journey begins for Tennessee on September 2 in Nashville against Virginia.
