Earlier this week, we got our first look at the Tennessee Titans' proposed $2.1 billion new stadium.
The Titans and mayor John Cooper recently reached a proposed agreement on the new stadium.
In the coming weeks, The Metro Council and the Nashville Sports Authority will consider the proposal.
At this point, it's all but a certainty that the new stadium is happening.
And when the new stadium is eventually built, there's a strong chance we'll see some huge events come to Nashville.
In fact, Nashville Sports Council CEO Scott Ramsey said this week, via a press release, that he's targeting three specific events for the Titans' new stadium.
- The College Football Playoff
- The Super Bowl
- Final Four
“A new enclosed stadium will only help expand on our mission and allow us to pursue sporting events like a Super Bowl, a CFP national championship, a men's Final Four, and other events that meet venue requirements we are unable to currently fulfill," said Ramsey in the release. "The new stadium could also help the TransPerfect Music City Bowl position itself within the future structure of postseason college football.”
Obviously, there will have to be discussions and negotiations to bring those events to Nashville after the new stadium is built (though those discussions will likely begin as soon as the stadium receives final approval).
However, it seems highly likely that Nashville will get at least one of those events, if not all three.
Nashville showed in 2019 when it hosted the NFL Draft that the city can put on an event unlike any other city in the country. After seeing how well the draft went, and how much national media attention it received, I have no doubt that the NFL and NCAA will be eager to have Nashville host their marquee events.
