NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans traded up with the Arizona Cardinals on Friday night to draft quarterback Will Levis with the 33rd overall pick. Arizona sent 33 and 81 overall to Tennessee for the 41st, 72nd selections and a 2024 third round pick.

General manager Ran Carthon and coach Mike Vrabel were in the market for a rookie passer and moved quickly to land him.

Levis fell out of the first round after being widely expected to chosen among the top 31 picks. Questions around the sharp drop off in performance for the Kentucky quarterback from his 2021 season to 2022 contributed to the slide. Levis now figures to slot in behind veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who enters the last year of his current deal this season.

It also relegates 2022 third-round passer Malik Willis to third on the depth chart.

Levis passing instincts, decision-making and accuracy are described by Athletic draft analyst Dane Brugler as "average." That is not a descriptor one wants to hear about their favorite franchise's potential future at the most important position. Levis will have the time necessary for new quarterbacks coach Charles London and promoted offensive coordinator Tim Kelly to work on the areas where he is mechanically flawed.

Carthon and Vrabel just made a major play in their first year together running things in Tennessee.
