It's no secret that the Tennessee Vols could use some secondary help after finishing No. 125 in pass defense this past season.

So it shouldn't be a surprise that the Vols are looking around in the NCAA transfer portal for defensive backs.

One of the players that Tennessee is reportedly interested in (per 247Sports) is Cincinnati Bearcats cornerback JQ Hardaway, a former four-star recruit.

From 247Sports:

According to 247Sports' Chris Hummer, JQ Hardaway has interest from "pretty much every DB-needy team in the country with early schools in the mix including Tennessee, Auburn and Kentucky. The Wisconsin staff, which includes his former head coach Luke Fickell, would obviously love to have him back as well. A school to potentially watch is Ohio State given that safeties coach Perry Eliano was Hardaway’s primary recruiter for Cincinnati.

Hardaway was recruited by the previous coaching staff at Tennessee and the current staff as well.

The talented cornerback visited UT multiple times in 2019 (including for the Vols' win against Mississippi State). Hardaway also visited Tennessee during the summer before the 2021 season, so he's been around Josh Heupel and his staff.

Tennessee badly needs defensive back help. And perhaps Hardaway would like to play in SEC country (he's from Alabama).

There are plenty of options in the transfer portal, but this is one that would certainly make a lot of sense for the Vols.
