The Tennessee Vols reportedly hold a "slight edge" for one of the top players in the 2026 recruiting class.

Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney noted this week that Tennessee has a slight edge for 2026 five-star running back Savion Hiter.

"Right now it looks like Tennessee holds a slight edge for the Woodberry Forest (Va.) Woodberry Forest School standout who had 1,060 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on 150 touches this past season," wrote Gorney about Hiter's recruitment on Tuesday.

Gorney also noted that Georgia, Penn State, and Ohio State are teams to watch in the recruiting battle for Hiter.

Hiter, 5-foot-11/182 lbs from Woodberry Forest, VA, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 1 player in the state of Virginia and the No. 1 running back in the nation. He's also rated as the No. 15 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.

Former Vols running back Jerry Mack visited Hiter in Virginia back in December. Mack, however, left Tennessee this offseason to become the Jacksonville Jaguars' new running backs coach.

De'Rail Sims, who was introduced to the media at Tennessee on Monday, recently took over as the Vols' new running backs coach. It'll be up to Sims to continue to build a strong relationship with Hiter.

The good news for the Vols is that they still have plenty of time for Sims to build that relationship (there's over 18 months to go until Hiter signs with a program).
