The Tennessee Vols are in a position they haven't been in for nearly 20 years.
Tennessee is ranked No. 3 in the latest AP Top 25 poll.
That's their highest ranking since 2005 when they opened the season as the No. 3 team in the nation.
The 2005 ranking is a bit misleading, considering the Vols finished that season 5-7.
In my opinion, this is Tennessee's most impressive ranking since 2001 when they were ranked No. 2 after beating Florida in a December matchup ahead of the SEC Championship game against LSU.

Tennessee is a legitimate national championship contender just 18 months after national analysts — folks now praising the Vols — said the program was dead.
No one thought Tennessee would be bowl eligible for years after NCAA recruiting violations were uncovered and resulted in then-head coach Jeremy Pruitt's dismissal.
UT fans were called foolish for expecting the program to ever be relevant again.
Now, less than two years later, the Vols are knocking on the door of the College Football Playoff.
Who looks foolish now?
