A former Tennessee Vols player who left the program after previous UT head coach Jeremy Pruitt was fired was asked this past week about UT's big win over Alabama in 2022.

Former Vols running back Eric Gray, who transferred to Oklahoma ahead of the 2021 season, was selected in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the New York Giants.

Gray will be reunited in New York with wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, his former Vols teammate.

Gray was asked by reporters if he watched Hyatt and the Vols beat Alabama this past season.

The Memphis native said he watched the game after Oklahoma's 52-42 win against Kansas (though Gray couldn't initially remember who the Sooners played that day).

"Me and my whole family watched the entire game and I was rooting for him," said Gray after New York's recent rookie minicamp. "I was rooting for him the whole way. I had a lot of teammates that played in it that were still on that team, so I was happy for him."

"Unbelievable," added Gray when asked about Hyatt's performance specifically. "I was watching it live, so I was like 'Jalin's doing his thing tonight'".

Hyatt told Giants.com that Gray is actually one of his closest friends and he was sad when the star running back left Tennessee for Oklahoma.

"Man, he's a good dude," said Hyatt. "When I came in as a freshman, he was there and showed me the way around the facility. I'm good friends with him. I met him through the process of everything when I was there with Pruitt. When he left, I was sad. But now he's one of my best friends. We're very close."

The two former Vols are hoping to become impact players in the star-studded NFC East that includes notable names such as Jalen Hurts, Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons, AJ Brown, and CeeDee Lamb.
