The Tennessee Vols officially lost a key offensive player on Monday.

Running back Tiyon Evans, a juco transfer who enrolled at UT last January, announced on Monday that he's transferring to Louisville.

Evans played in seven games for the Vols this season, rushing for 521 yards and six touchdowns. He proved to be a dynamic playmaker, but he couldn't stay healthy enough to play the entire season.

The initial feeling was that Evans hit the transfer portal so he could return closer to his hometown in South Carolina. There were also some rumblings about Evans' grades being an issue, though one player who is no longer with Tennessee told me that Evans' grades were not an issue.

Whatever the reason, the Vols are down a key player.

But there could be some good news on the horizon.

Former five-star running back Zach Evans recently entered the transfer portal and it looks like he could be an option for Tennessee.

Evans visited Ole Miss recently and he's reportedly set to visit Tennessee this weekend.

According to 247Sports' Steve Wiltfong, Evans has kept up with the Vols this season and has appreciated the big plays Josh Heupel was able to create for UT's running backs.

Evans averaged over 7 yards per carry for TCU the last two seasons, rushing for 1,063 yards in 15 games. He also caught 18 passes for 206 yards.

Ole Miss is very much in the mix for Evans. It certainly appears this battle will come down to the Rebels and the Vols.

If Tennessee manages to land Zach Evans, it will make the loss of Tiyon Evans sting a lot less. They're comparable players who have had similar production at the Power-5 level.
