And according to a report from 247Sports, it sounds like there's one particular destination that Tennessee is hoping to avoid.
247Sports reported this week that a source close to Tennessee's program is hoping for "anywhere but Nashville" (which would be the Music City Bowl).
Fortunately for the Vols, it sounds like they'll get their wish. A Gator Bowl matchup against the North Carolina Tar Heels is a strong possibility based on multiple reports.
From 247Sports: Anywhere but Nashville is how it was put to 247Sports this week after speaking to a source close to Tennessee about bowl season. The Gator Bowl was one of three Florida-based bowl games in attendance for the Vols' loss to Georgia last weekend and the Citrus Bowl followed Tennessee's win over Vanderbilt in Week 13. Clemson could be an option here too on a four-game winning streak, but chances are slim ESPN and bowl organizers slot those two teams together again in the postseason, which would mark a rematch of last season's Orange Bowl.
You can't blame Tennessee for wanting to avoid another Music City Bowl matchup. For starters, the Vols didn't have a great experience the last time they played in the Music City Bowl (two years ago) thanks to the Jaylen Wright "non touchdown" that should've counted.
Tennessee has played in the Music City Bowl three times in the last 13 years (2010, 2016, and 2021), so it's understandable that they'd like to avoid a late December trip to Nashville.
The Vols last played in the Gator Bowl in early 2020 (the 2019 season), beating Indiana in come-from-behind fashion in Jeremy Pruitt's second season leading the program.
Oddly enough, a matchup against North Carolina in the Gator Bowl would give Tennessee a chance to avenge their loss to the Tar Heels in the 2010 Music City Bowl.
A defensive assistant coach just became available that the Tennessee Vols should consider hiring
He would be a great hire by the Vols
