South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback Spencer Rattler ruffled some feathers on Saturday night after his team's 41-20 loss to the Tennessee Vols.
Rattler told reporters after the game that the South Carolina game was like the Super Bowl for Tennessee fans.
Tennessee redshirt senior tight end Jacob Warren, who caught a touchdown in the win against South Carolina, responded to Rattler's comment during his weekly appearance on Off the Hook Sports with Dave Hooker.
"I saw something on Twitter about it," said Warren. "He can say that if he wants. [It] doesn't matter to me. They rushed the field on us last year, so that was their Super Bowl I guess. They won it last year, we won it this year."
"Again, what do I have to do with him? Nothing, right? At the end of the day, maybe he's trying to make himself feel better about it," added Warren. "Again, can't argue with what happened on the field and that's all we're really concerned about."
That's a veteran response from Warren. There's no need to get into a war of words with Rattler, a player the Vols will likely never face again (Rattler has his COVID year of eligibility remaining, but it seems unlikely that he'll choose to use it).
I'm sure the Vols did some talking on Saturday night. And I'm sure there were some things said in the locker room that no one on Tennessee's roster wants out there publicly. But Warren was wise to hold back while addressing Rattler's comments. There's a lot of season left to be played and the last thing Tennessee needs to be worried about is a quarterback/team they've already beaten.
