Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Josh Palmer received some unbelievable praise this week for the way he plays.

Palmer, who was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, put up modest numbers as a rookie last year.

The former Vol caught 33 passes for 353 yards and four touchdowns in 17 games in 2021.

Palmer, though, has apparently taken a massive step forward this offseason. As a result, he's poised to be a key part of the Los Angeles offense this season. And he was praised this week by a Chargers team source (via Jordan Schultz) for his route-running abilities and the way he attacks the ball.

Palmer put up modest numbers during his time at Tennessee. He caught 99 passes for 1,514 yards and seven touchdowns during his four years with the Vols.

Those numbers typically don't result in a player being drafted in the third round.

Palmer, however, was in a difficult situation at Tennessee. His freshman year was Butch Jones' final season, which was disastrous. His final three seasons were spent playing under Jeremy Pruitt. And the offense under Pruitt could best be described as archaic. Pruitt was more worried about not turning the ball over than creating splash plays, which limited the production of players like Palmer.

The Chargers recognized the talent that Palmer put on film and viewed him as a third-round talent. It appears their instincts were correct because the former Vol has certainly turned some heads during training camp. And it looks like he could be in for a big season in 2022.
