A pair of former Tennessee Vols were listed as starters on the Carolina Panthers' first preseason depth chart that was released this week.

Former Vols defensive lineman Shy Tuttle, who signed a three-year deal with the Panthers earlier this offseason, was listed as one of Carolina's starting defensive ends.

Tuttle signed with Carolina after spending the first four seasons of his career with the New Orleans Saints.

Former Tennessee offensive lineman Cade Mays, meanwhile, was listed as the Panthers' first-team right guard.

Mays is getting first team reps while guard Austin Corbett continues his recovery from a torn ACL.

Tuttle and Mays never played together at Tennessee, though they were almost certainly familiar with each other before landing in Charlotte together. Mays, for example, went on recruiting visits to Tennessee while Tuttle was still in Knoxville.

Tuttle ended up playing at Tennessee from 2015 to 2018.

Mays played at UT from 2020 to 2021. He spent the first two years of his collegiate career at Georgia.
