The Tennessee Vols received some massively positive news on Friday afternoon.

According to a report from Outkick.com's Trey Wallace, Tennessee wide receiver Bru McCoy has been deemed eligible for the 2022 season. That means he'll be on the field when the Vols take on Ball State in the season opener next Thursday night.

McCoy transferred to Tennessee from USC earlier this offseason.

McCoy is a former five-star recruit who never quite found his groove with the Trojans. He caught 21 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns in 2020. He missed the 2021 season partially due to a suspension.

Vols offensive coordinator Alex Golesh told reporters earlier this month that Tennessee was preparing as though they'd have McCoy for the season-opener against Ball State.

"We're approaching it like we're going to have him," said Golesh. "We've approached it that way since he got here. Then we'll adjust as we need to if we don't [have McCoy]. Really good football player. Has fit right into our culture. Has added to our culture. Hard-working, tough, smart, really dynamic. To be honest with you, in a lot of ways, super, super grateful to be here and have another chance to do this and having a blast with it. We're approaching it like we're going to have him, and then we'll adjust if worst-case scenario happens."

Fortunately for the Vols, they won't have to worry about that worst-case scenario.
