The Tennessee Vols landed ahead of the Georgia Bulldogs this week on an impressive list.

247Sports recently published a list of the AP Top 25 Poll's greatest programs ever.

Tennessee came in at No. 10, while Georgia landed at No. 12.

From 247Sports: Since winning a national championship in 1998, Tennessee football has continuously tried working its way back to the top of the SEC, but results have underwhelmed — until the 2022 season. Tennessee debuted at No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings at 8-0 and was in the national championship hunt before late-season losses to Georgia and South Carolina took the Vols out of the mix. However, they finished No. 6 in the AP Poll after toppling Clemson in the Orange Bowl, a terrific finish to the program's best campaign in decades. Tennessee is ranked inside the top 15 heading into September.

By the way, this wasn't a subjective list. So Georgia fans can't be too upset that their Bulldogs are ranked below the Volunteers.

247Sports' Brad Crawford noted that the teams on the list are "ranked by total points based on AP Poll finishes since 1936".

This list obviously won't have any impact on how the 2023 season plays out. What this does, however, is confirm that when Tennessee and Georgia get together each fall, two of the greatest programs in the history of college football are on the field.
