The Tennessee Vols faced an early 4-0 deficit against Georgia Tech on Sunday, but that was no problem for a UT team that has displayed an incredible ability to put up runs in critical moments this season.
Tennessee scored nine runs in the final five innings of the game to secure the 9-6 win and advance to the Super Regional.
The Vols will play Notre Dame next weekend in a best-of-three series. The winner gets a spot in the College World Series.
After the win against Georgia Tech, Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello was asked about his thoughts on Notre Dame.
Vitello revealed that the only reason he knows the Vols are playing Notre Dame is because he received a text from Tennessee football legend Peyton Manning.

“The only reason I know we're playing Notre Dame is one text message, and that was from Peyton Manning," said Vitello after the game. "So thank you for sending it, Peyton. I'm not gonna say thank you for letting us know who we're playing. You’d like to just enjoy the moment for a minute. But thank you for allowing me to brag to people that Peyton Manning sent my phone a text message."
It's no surprise that Peyton was one of the first people to congratulate Vitello after the Vols' big win against Georgia Tech. It's also no surprise that the ultra-competitive Hall of Famer is already looking ahead to Tennessee's next opponent.
While Vitello was thrilled to receive a text from Peyton after the win, the text he really wants to receive — a congratulations for winning the College World Series — will have to wait until later this month. And Tennessee will have to take care of business against some really good teams to ensure that Vitello receives that text.
