The Tennessee Vols received some more great news on Tuesday.

Former five-star wide receiver Bru McCoy announced that he's transferring from USC to Tennessee.

This is a move that had been expected, but McCoy's announcement on Tuesday made it official.

McCoy, 6-foot-3/220 lbs, entered the NCAA transfer portal earlier back in January.

The Santa Ana, CA native was rated as the No. 9 overall player in the 2019 recruiting class.

McCoy redshirted in 2019 at USC (he originally signed at USC, transferred to Texas for spring practice in 2019, then transferred back to USC later that summer). He then played in six games in 2020 (the Trojans only played six games due to the COVID-19 pandemic) and caught 21 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns.

Here's the scouting report on McCoy from 247Sports:

Unique two-way player with a high projection at receiver or outside linebacker. Big, strong and physical as a wideout with good hands and high-level body control. Runs well enough to get behind a defense, makes the tough catch look routine and can do something with the ball in his hands after the catch as well. Is also a tremendous blocker and plays with incredible effort.

McCoy could be a pass rusher in the SEC if he wanted, which tells us all we need to know about his physicality as a wide receiver.

The California native isn't a speedster, but he's a tough wide receiver who has great hands, can make plays after the catch, and isn't afraid to be physical as a blocker.

McCoy has a ton of upside and Vols head coach Josh Heupel has already proven that he can get the most out of a wide receiver's talent — just look at how Velus Jones Jr's draft stock went from UDFA under previous UT head coach Jeremy Pruitt to a third-round pick under Heupel (Jones, like McCoy, also transferred to Tennessee from USC).

This is a perfect fit for both sides. The Vols get a potentially dominant wide receiver, while McCoy lands in an offense where he can finally deliver on the hype that surrounded him as a five-star recruit.
