According to On3's Pete Nakos, Washington State wide receiver Josh Kelly has an offer from Tennessee.
Kelly is a 6-foot-1/192 lb wide receiver from Fresno, CA. He was rated as a three-star recruit during the 2019 recruiting cycle.
The California native spent the first four seasons of his career at Fresno State before transferring to Washington State for the 2023 season.
After putting up modest numbers at Fresno State, Kelly broke out this past season for the Cougars, catching 61 passes for 923 yards and eight touchdowns. Kelly averaged 15.1 yards per reception in 2023.
Washington State runs an air raid offense. While the Vols don't run the air raid under Josh Heupel, there are concepts that translate which makes the transition to the Vols' Baylor-inspired offense easier for a player (we saw this in practice with JaVonta Payton in 2021 after he transferred from Mississippi State which was coached by Mike Leach at the time).
Kelly, who has one season of eligibility remaining, is seemingly a great fit for the Vols. But it sounds like Tennessee will have plenty of competition for the veteran wide receiver. They'll need to get him on campus to have a legitimate shot at landing him out of the portal — and to see if he'll be a good fit for the culture that Heupel has built at Tennessee.
