Redshirt sophomore Tennessee Vols defensive lineman Bryson Eason was asked about the craziness of the NCAA transfer portal on Tuesday during a media session with reporters.

And Eason delivered a must-hear answer.

"Personally, I don't pay too much mind to it (the portal)," said Eason on Monday. "If guys want to leave, if guys want to come in, I'm going to embrace them and love them regardless. Because of these guys, I built close bonds with, so I'm going to support them regardless of whatever decision they make."

"The transfer portal is crazy," added Eason. "Some people get in there and get stuck in there. Me personally, I just want to stay away from it and try to be the best I can.”

I think the NCAA transfer portal is a good thing. I think players should be able to transfer just like coaches are able to leave for new jobs. But I also think there are some situations where players would be better off staying where they're at — not everyone who enters the portal is going to find an ideal landing spot. And a lot of players in the portal never find a new team at all.

When you combine NIL deals with the portal, it makes for a chaotic offseason (I don't know how coaches are managing rosters right now — it has to be a nightmare).

Eventually, I think the portal will self-correct and we won't see nearly as many players entering it each offseason. But for the foreseeable future, I have a feeling it's going to continue to be "crazy".
