There was a lot of talk this week about the atmosphere that the Tennessee Vols would face in Sanford Stadium against the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday.

Numerous former Vols — including former UT quarterbacks Erik Ainge and Josh Dobbs — talked this week about Sanford Stadium not being an intimidating atmosphere.

Those guys have more experience playing in Sanford Stadium than I do, so I trust their opinions.

But what's happened in the past didn't matter on Saturday in Athens.

Georgia fans were loud. Real loud.

And it impacted Tennessee and their offense.

The Vols had numerous false start penalties that led to Tennessee playing behind the chains more often than not.

After the game, Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt admitted that the crowd noise played a big factor in Tennessee's struggles.

"The crowd noise was effective," said Hyatt. "There were some times we couldn't hear the snap, the call from Hook (Vols QB Hendon Hooker). Just give credit to their fans. They disrupted what we did on offense today. That would probably be the biggest thing that got us today."

Every SEC stadium that seats 90k to 100k has the potential to be loud during big games. That's why winning on the road in the SEC isn't easy.

Tennessee will learn from this loss and they'll be better for it. And the good news for them is that they won't face another environment this season as wild as the one they saw in Athens on Saturday.
