The Tennessee Vols are hoping to add USC transfer wide receiver Bru McCoy to the roster in the not-so-distant future.
McCoy is a former five-star recruit who originally signed with Texas during the 2019 recruiting cycle. He didn't stay at Texas long, as he quickly transferred to USC.
The Santa Ana, CA native suited up for the Trojans in 2020 as a true freshman, catching 21 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns.
McCoy didn't play for USC in 2021 due to a felony arrest for domestic violence. The district attorney's office in Los Angeles County declined to press charges against McCoy.

Tennessee is currently the favorite to land McCoy in the transfer portal. And that's good news for the Vols' roster because he's the No. 3 ranked player available in the transfer portal according to 247Sports.
From 247Sports:
Tennessee is reportedly in "a good place" with Bru McCoy following his recent official visit to Knoxville. The 6-foot-3 receiver entered the transfer portal in January. The former five-star recruit did not suit up for the Trojans last year following an offseason arrest for a felony domestic violence charge. While the Los Angeles district attorney declined to press charges, USC suspended McCoy in August from team activities and he never returned to the field. New USC coach Lincoln Riley was asked this week if the team ever considered bringing McCoy back in the fold.
“Yeah, I mean, (I) kind of was kept in the loop there as things played out,” Riley said. “But as I understand it, I believe he’s going to transfer.”
The Vols have some nice depth at wide receiver, but they could certainly use some more talent at the position — especially with Velus Jones Jr and JaVonta Payton off to the NFL after exhausting their college eligibility.
McCoy isn't a speedster like Jones, but he's an extremely talented wide receiver who can bring a different element to Tennessee's offense.
The former USC wideout has good hands, elite body control and he's great after the catch. McCoy is also a great blocker (not surprising, since he's a physical player who can also line up at edge rusher) and plays with a high effort level.
Tennessee needs to add as much talent as possible to their roster. McCoy feels destined for Rocky Top, which is great news for Josh Heupel and his staff.
