The Tennessee Vols are hoping that a tough recruiting week doesn't go from bad to worse this weekend.

Monday wasn't quite a nightmare for the Vols, but it wasn't fun, either.

Tennessee kicked off the first full week of June by learning that five-star linebacker Sammy Brown decided to commit to Clemson. Brown had just been to Knoxville for a visit in late May.

The Vols also found out on Monday that four-star edge rusher Kameryn Fountain had committed to USC. 247Sports Steve Wiltfong predicted in May that Tennessee would land Fountain.

Four-star wide receiver JJ Harrell decommitted from UT on Monday to wrap up the rough recruiting week.

Could more bad recruiting news be on the way for the Tennessee Vols?

A couple of Tennessee's key 2024 recruiting targets will be heading to Ann Arbor this weekend for a visit.

2024 five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo and four-star athlete Boo Carter are set to visit Michigan this weekend.

Wingo is rated as the No. 2 wide receiver in the nation and the Vols are very much in the mix to land him. The last thing they want is for Michigan to make a big impression on the St Louis native (Georgia is also a big threat here).

As for Carter, that's a player the Vols have to land. The versatile four-star recruit, who can play on either side of the ball, is rated as the No. 3 player in the state of Tennessee.

The Vols have long been viewed as the favorites for Carter, but Michigan has given the talented recruit plenty to think about.

“I like how Michigan recruits,” said Carter to 247Sports this week. “I like how the coaches bond with the recruits. Like me for example, me and Coach Clink are real tight. But I'm also looking for my family’s (opinion). My mom, my pops, my sister, they've never been up to Michigan. I feel like if they like it, (then) I like it. So that might be what it is.”

I still think Tennessee is the team to beat here. And I think Carter eventually commits to the Vols. But Tennessee's staff is going to have to recruit him just hard as their other top targets – they can't let up just because he's from Chattanooga. Otherwise, Vols fans might be watching Carter excel in B1G country.
