The Tennessee Vols have some new competition for one of their top 2025 recruiting targets.
Earlier this spring, Tennessee was named by Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gormey as a "major contender" for 2025 five-star quarterback George MacIntyre.
MacIntyre, 6-foot-5/182 lbs from Brentwood, TN, is rated in 247Sports' composite ranking as the No. 2 quarterback in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee.
It appears that the Clemson Tigers have also made MacIntyre one of their top 2025 recruiting targets.
MacIntyre recently visited Clemson. Shortly after his visit, he became the first 2025 quarterback to receive an offer from the Tigers.
“I think that true family feel there,” said MacIntyre to 247Sports about what interests him about Clemson.
New Tigers offensive coordinator Garrett Riley is leading MacIntyre's recruitment for Clemson. And it sounds like MacIntyre is a big fan of Riley.
“I think Coach Riley is going to elevate the offense for sure," said MacIntyre. "I think it feels special compared to other places. Dabo has made it a true family feel.”
When it comes to quarterbacks, Vols fans shouldn't worry too much about who Tennessee does or doesn't get. Josh Heupel is one of the best quarterback developers in the nation and he's quickly proven that he's going to consistently bring the right quarterbacks to Knoxville. Heupel won't land every single one of his top targets (no coach, not even Nick Saban, gets every target), but he's always going to have an elite-level quarterback at Tennessee.
Still, MacIntyre is a player the Vols don't want to see leave the state. The last thing UT fans want to see is the top in-state player heading east to Clemson.
