Over the last few months the Tennessee Titans have been in discussions with the city of Nashville centering around renovations to Nissan Stadium. However, on Thursday news broke that suggested the Titans may be exploring the idea of a new stadium altogether.
The cost of these renovations had been originally estimated to total $600 million. On Thursday a Titans spokesperson informed Nate Rau of Axios that the cost of these renovations were said to be nearly double the estimated $600 million.
According to the spokesperson, the stadium’s renovations included the structural frame of Nissan Stadium along with the replacement of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.
While the original conversation around stadium renovations has taken quite the pivot, the two parties are reportedly making progress. Nashville Mayor John Cooper confirmed the report by saying, “revised cost estimates require us to closely review whether a new stadium would be a better long-term financial decision.”
While these discussions are clearly still in the beginning stages, a new home for the Titans could provide the NFL with another host site for a future Super Bowl along with other major sporting events.
