NASHVILLE — Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan is getting the ball rolling on turning over his coaching staff.
According to a report from Paul Kuharsky, Callahan informed Titans offensive coordinator Tim Kelly that he would not be retained last night. That officially gives the Titans a vacancy at offensive coordinator.
Per Kuharsky, other members of Mike Vrabel’s coaching staff have also been informed they are being let go. That includes director of football administration John Streicher.
It should surprise nobody that the dominos are beginning to fall for the Titans’ old regime. A number of Titans assistant coaches and coordinators have already been taking interviews from other organizations. Defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, defensive line coach Terrell Williams, wide receivers coach Rob Moore, and defensive backs coach Chris Harris are among those that have taken interviews.
Former Titans running backs and tight ends coach Tony Dews has already accepted a job with the New York Jets.
Kelly’s tenure with the Titans will be a difficult one to judge. While the Titans offense was underwhelming in 2023, you can’t help but feel like Kelly was not given enough talent to have a high-powered offense. The offensive line was atrocious, and outside of DeAndre Hopkins, Tennessee lacked weapons down the field.
But even if the problems in 2023 were not entirely Kelly’s fault, Callahan is doing the right thing by cleaning house and getting some fresh perspective in the building. The firing of Mike Vrabel and hiring of Brian Callahan symbolized a new era and new brand of Titans football. The coaching staff needs to reflect that, and it’s why I would expect more names to come out as being out in the near future.
