The Tennesee Titans' 2022 season is over, but the franchise is in a good spot to land some very good players that can help the team get back into the postseason in 2023.
The Titans' season ultimately ended in disappointment after a 7-3 start turned into a 7-10 finish, which ended the team's streak of three-straight postseason appearances.
However, there is still plenty of reason for optimism moving forward. The team has already made significant personal changes, including firing GM Jon Robinson and replacing him with Ran Carthon. They also shook up the coaching staff and promoted Tim Kelly to offensive coordinator after firing Todd Downing.
The good news for Ran Carthon is that he will have plenty of draft capital to work with to help re-tool this roster. The Titans own six picks in the 2023 draft and will pick in every round besides the fourth.
The Titans traded their 2022 second-round pick and their 2023 fourth-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons for WR Julio Jones and a 2023 sixth-round pick. The Jones trade was mostly a bust, as he played just ten games for the Titans before being released the following offseason.
The Titans traded their original 2023 sixth-rounder to the Los Angeles Rams for WR Robert Woods. Woods had an ok first season in Tennesee, ending with 49 catches, 487 yards, and two touchdowns.
Here are the Titan's six picks in the upcoming draft:
- Round 1, Pick 11 overall
- Round 2, Pick 41 overall
- Round 3, Pick 72 overall
- Round 5, Pick 144 overall
- Round 6, Pick 172 overall (via Falcons)
- Round 7, Pick 206 overall
Per Over The Cap, the Titans won't receive any compensatory picks in 2023.
While the Titans have many draft picks, they are not in a great situation with the salary cap. According to Spotrac, the Titans currently sit at 29th in the league with -$23,687,933 in cap space. However, the Titans can fix that issue by releasing a few veterans and bloated contracts from the roster.
Overall, this will be a pivotal offseason for the Titans, as the team will need to figure out the direction of the franchise.
