The Tennessee Titans have plenty of different to explore in order to improve its roster through the 2023 NFL Draft. General manager Ran Carthon will assemble his first draft class with the Titans, but his draft strategy remains a mystery.
Without a draft class of his own to detect any draft trends or patterns, it’s difficult for Titans fans to know what to expect in the upcoming draft. That being said, Carthon has mentioned that he is taking phone calls from teams in order to search for potential improvements to Tennessee’s roster.
Carthon’s willingness to listen to offers, coupled with his experience with the San Francisco 49ers, has contributed to many different draft day theories. One of the most notable ideas is that Carthon could call his former boss, 49ers GM John Lynch, and discuss a trade for former first-round pick Trey Lance.
In fact, one Bay Area radio host believes that Lance will be dealt to Tennessee during the draft. Larry Kreuger proposes a theory involving the Titans trading Malik Willis for Lance, as well as a pick swap that would give the 49ers a Day 1-2 pick.
Carthon’s free agency additions in former 49ers LB Azeez Al-Shaair and OL Daniel Brunskill have only created more buzz around a potential trade with San Fran. But determining Lance’s true trade value could serve as a pothole on the road to this wild theory.
The 49ers’ starting quarterback job is believed to be Brock Purdy’s upon his return from elbow surgery this offseason. Lynch declared Purdy to be “the leader in the clubhouse." The team as also added Sam Darnold in free agency, meaning Lance has become expendable.
Meanwhile, Willis didn’t exactly look like an NFL starter after being thrown into the fire as a rookie. Perhaps shipping him off in exchange for Lance restarts the Titans’ quarterback clock as Ryan Tannehill plays out the final year on his current contract.
