The Tennessee Titans have released offensive tackle Jamarco Jones less than two weeks after naming him a contender for the starting right tackle job.

Jones was dismissed from practice twice this week for getting into altercations with teammates on the field. The first time, it was a scuffle with defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons that landed Jones in the sandpit for the remainder of practice. Two days (and one practice) later, Jones delivered an unappreciated blindside hit on linebacker Chance Campbell during team period.

"I think you have to just know how to practice," said Mike Vrabel when asked about Jones' antics after practice on Thursday. "We talk all the time about being competitive and going to that line, and certainly not going to do anything that hurts the team. We don't want to see that."

Tennessee is eating $1.475 million with the release of Jones, who had $1.10 million of of his 2023 base salary previously guaranteed.

With Nicholas Petit-Frere being suspended by the NFL for violating the league's gambling policy, right tackle is a big question mark for the Titans. Tennessee eating money to cut a player at a position of need this early in camp really says a lot about the team's feelings towards Jones.

It's worth noting that before he got injured in training camp last season, Jones went after offensive tackle Taylor Lewan at the beginning of practice in front of fans. This has been an ongoing problem and a blister that has refused to heal.

The Titans will now have to find their answer at right tackle elsewhere. Veteran Chris Hubbard, who was signed by the team last week, is a likely candidate.

Hubbard will immediately enter the open competition Tennessee has at right tackle. The spot on the Titans offensive line was left vacant after 2022 third-round […]
