The Tennessee Titans are reportedly acquiring veteran kicker Nick Folk in a trade with the New England Patriots for a seventh-round draft pick.

Folk has been in the NFL since 2007, kicking in 211 games over his career. Last year with the Patriots, Folk made 32 of his 37 field goal attempts including four of five from 50+ yards away.

The trade represents an investment into the kicker position that hasn't existed in Tennessee for years. But finally, the Titans have their kicker for the 2023 season.

Since 2019, 15 different kickers have suited up for the Titans to play in a regular season or preseason game. Ever since Ryan Succop departed, Tennessee has been a revolving door for kickers more than anywhere else in the NFL.

And of course, it has cost them some important football games along the way.

Trading away draft capital for a 38-year-old kicker shows just how dire things have gotten in Nashville. But with a Titans roster that is ready to compete in the AFC South, Tennessee cannot afford to give away games this season because their kicker can't put it through the uprights.

Folk has all the pedigree to give me confidence he will be more than adequate in Tennessee. In 2021, he made 36 of 39 field goal attempts and was a perfect 31-for-31 from inside 50 yards.

It's nice to know the search is over and the Titans have the position covered for at least one season.
