The Tennessee Titans’ search for its next offensive coordinator has cooled off over the last week or so. That was until CBS’ NFL Insider, Jonathan Jones, dropped a massive nugget minutes before the AFC Championship Game kicked off.

Jones reported that the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has a certain preference if he chooses to leave Kansas City following the postseason.

“He may be coaching his final postseason with the Kansas City Chiefs,” Jones said of Bieniemy. “If he doesn’t get the Colts’ head job, look for him to be an offensive coordinator with a defensive-minded head coach. That could be Washington, Baltimore, or Tennessee – they all have interest.”

Tennessee makes perfect sense for Bieniemy with Mike Vrabel at the helm. The Titans' offer Bienemy an opportunity to escape Andy Reid's shadow in Kansas City. If Bieniemy can prove that he can guide a successful offense in his own system, he would become a much more attractive head coaching candidate in the next cycle.

Bieniemy is one of five candidates the Titans have expressed interest in. That list includes Chiefs QB coach Matt Nagy, Denver Broncos OC Justin Outten and Atlanta Falcons QB coach Charles London. Tennessee has also interviewed its passing game coordinator, Tim Kelly, for the vacancy Todd Downing left upon his firing.

Bieniemy has been with Kansas City since 2013. He first served as the Chiefs’ running backs coach (2013-2017) before taking over as offensive coordinator in 2018.
