With mere hours until the 2023 NFL Draft gets underway from Kansas City, pressure is beginning to mount for the Tennessee Titans to make an aggressive move in Thursday night's first round.
ESPN's Dianna Russini reported on Wednesday afternoon that the Titans have been making calls to the Arizona Cardinals about trading for the third overall pick. If Tennessee were to make such a move, it's safe to assume that GM Ran Carthon and head coach Mike Vrabel would be doing so to select a quarterback.
Getting the Titans' next franchise quarterback will not come without competition, though. Russini's latest update is that Arizona is "currently mulling trade offers from multiple teams interested in moving to No. 3 overall."
While the Houston Texans' second overall pick will have massive implications on who moves up to number three, it's clear that the Titans are going to have to outbid some healthy competition if they want to take the second quarterback off the board.
Let's say C.J. Stroud, who is currently listed at +400 to be the number two pick, does not go to Houston second overall. That would leave the franchise quarterback that Titans fans are clamoring available to be traded for at number three.
The Titans' fanbase is desperate for some excitement and hope after Jon Robinson's trade of A.J. Brown and the major letdown that was the 2022 season. A new general manager is a promising start, but with a new stadium set to open in 2027, it's time to get the signal caller that will energize your fanbase and lead your offense into this new era of Titans football.
As if there wasn't already enough pressure to deliver the quarterback of the future, it's important to keep in mind that the Indianapolis Colts are picking fourth overall. If Stroud falls past Houston, not moving up with Arizona might mean Stroud lands in Indy. I don't think that one would go over too well.
Mike Vrabel knows what Stroud is all about. Vrabel has a great relationship with Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and the entire Buckeyes' program. According to what Stroud told Jim Wyatt on Wednesday, Vrabel has been checking up on him since the 2022 Pro Day at OSU over 12 months ago.
Tennessee has learned over the past few seasons that excellence at quarterback is essential to competing in the AFC. In a conference with Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Lawrence, Herbert, Jackson, and now Aaron Rodgers, taking your team to the next level starts and ends with the guy under center.
It's time to go get your guy, and in my opinion, that guy is Stroud.
