This is the inaugural edition of a new series, titled Tremendous Titans. I'll be breaking down some of the greatest players in Tennessee Titans franchise history. Everyone could use a bit of happy reflection right now, right?
To lead it off, I analyzed the best #99 in the history of the Titans. Can you guess him? I'll even give you a hint. His initials are J.C…
No, no it is certainly not Jadeveon Clowney. Don't be ridiculous. It's Jurrell Casey, easily.
I originally planned to break down the top three players in franchise history to wear certain numbers. That ended quickly when I realized that the second and third options for #99 were Doug Smith and Kenny Holmes. Both had solid, respectable careers, but their stats and impact for the franchise were nothing eye-popping.
As for Casey, that is a different story. He is one of the most beloved defensive players in Titans history. The defensive lineman was a real locker room leader as well as just a stand-up guy off the field. Casey was also extremely consistent on the field in his career in Tennessee, which made the trade of him to Denver even more painful for Titans fans.
Casey was a 5-time Pro Bowl selection and a key cog in the Tennessee defense for years. When everything around him seemed to continuously change, he was a constant. There's no coincidence that fans adored him, and teammates and coaches raved about him.
He was also beloved in the community and continues to be until this day. His work in society led him to win the 2018 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2018. Whether it was coaching the youth or visiting people in need, Casey was there for Nashville and many other places.
Jurrell Casey probably won't be in the NFL Hall of Fame when it is all said and done, but there is no doubt about the impact he made on Titans fans and their communities.
