When the Tennessee Titans released punter Brett Kern this week, the immediate assumption was that the three-time Pro-Bowler would sign with the Buffalo Bills.

The Bills are in need of a punter after releasing rookie Matt Araiza this past weekend in the wake of a civil suit over an alleged gang rape committed by Araiza and two of his San Diego State teammates.

Kern is from the Buffalo area so the connection instantly made sense.

However, it appears that Kern won’t be signing with the Bills.

Kern’s father told WLVL on Wednesday morning that his son isn’t signing with Buffalo.

According to Kern’s father, the Titans have told Kern to stay ready in case rookie Ryan Stonehouse doesn’t cut it.

Kern, according to his father, loves life in Tennessee, so he’s not looking to exit the area.

It sounds like Kern’s time with the Titans might not be over quite yet.

Rookie punters are a gamble. It’s understandable that Tennessee wanted to go in a youthful direction, but there's no guarantee that Stonehouse will perform at a high level for the Titans this season.

If he falters, it sounds like Kern could once again take the field at Nissan Stadium as the Titans' punter.
