Former Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Jay Cutler clowned his own alma mater this week during an appearance on Chris Long's "Green Light" podcast.

Cutler, an Indiana native who resides in Nashville, was asked by Long, who played college football at Virginia, if Vanderbilt and Virginia are similar in terms of their standing in their respective conferences (they're both more known for academics than athletics).

"For sure," said Cutler when asked if Virginia is basically Vanderbilt. "I haven't been down there (Vandy) in a while. They blew the stadium up so it's a train wreck down there right now. There's just not a lot of incentive to take my boys down there. I don't want them to associate this with football."

Ouch. The "I don't want them to associate this (Vandy) with football" line has to hurt if you're a Commodores fan.

Long then asked Cutler, who played the majority of his NFL career with the Chicago Bears, where he takes his boys to watch football.

"We've been to Tennessee, we go up to the Bears games," said Cutler. "We go to fun places."

I don't know if Cutler was talking about the Vols or the Titans when he said that he takes his boys to Tennessee games, but it's worth pointing out that he helped supply UT with victory cigars for the Alabama game last season.

It's not really a surprise that Cutler isn't out there rocking Vandy gear on the sidelines for games every weekend. After all, it was kind of a fluke that Cutler even ended up at Vanderbilt (which he famously said he had not heard of before receiving an offer from the Commodores)

If Cutler's boys end up being top high school recruits, it sounds like Vanderbilt probably won't be at the top of their list thanks to Jay.
